September Heat and Hurricanes

Summer's technically over but you'd never know it by the temperature outside. It's hotter than all get out and to boot there's a hurricane headed in our general direction. Go figure...

The garden (such as it is) is putting on a lovely end-of-season show.
Despite being eaten alive by leaf miners and Japanese beetlesit appears we will have September roses.

The hydrangeas are keeping up an amazing show of strength and vigor.
I can hardly believe the number of blooms this year.
They have taken on the most amazing autumnal hue.I remain totally entranced and obsessed with these flowers.

The Autumn Joy sedum definitely knows it's September
and so do the holly bushes. At this rate, we'll have plenty of berries for the cardinals this winter!

Even the weeds are looking handsome this time of year.
The vegetable garden is an unbelievable tangle of morning glories and tomatoes. The tomato vines have completely sprawled off their poles and are writhing around amidst the basil and the marigolds. Some where under the green mess are carrots...I think.

The beans, oh my...I sort of forgot about the beans and now sadly they're just a little long in the tooth. The pods are almost as long as the poles of the wind chime.

The wild roses in the pasture across the way are all finished,
and in a few short weeks it'll be dark at 5:30pm.I'm not quite ready.
