Under the Big Top

We made it... through our second flea market that is.
We're a little creaky and sore today but it was totally worth it!

We brought all kinds of neat stuff to sell under our new shade canopy.
It's totally cool with its big old extendable wing flaps. There was almost as much interest in it as the stuff under it! I liked it not only because it kept the hot sun at bay but also because it was like selling in your very own fort. Some things never lose their appeal...

It was a lovely summer day, breezy and about 80 degrees. A time or two we had to hold onto the side poles just to be sure our canopy didn't fly away - it could've been a very impressive Flying Nun stunt but in the end I glad we stayed earthbound.

We packed our rented 14 footer full and this time managed to avoid the two grueling 12-hour days out in the hot garage pricing and packing smalls. I hope to never ever repeat that ordeal. Things went more smoothly and were generally easier overall, though I'm still coveting a box truck of my very own...

New items in the "Flea Market Essentials Box" this time - sunscreen, bug repellent and homemade mojitos in the cooler all mixed and ready to go - just add ice and ginger beer - delish! We do have our priorities after all...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been pretty busy painting furniture. I must say, it feels really good doing something creative with my hands that doesn't involve rosin and a metronome. This set sold early on in the day - thank you Sandy!

We were set up next to Sandy (in the sunglasses)
who once again came with two box truck loads of goodies. Her painted furniture is to die for and I certainly found inspiration in her work
(as seen in a few of my humble versions).Once again Sandy plied us with treats ranging from shrimp cocktail to no-bake chocolate peanut butter cookies. In full disclosure, let's just say right here and right now - this was not a good day for counting Weight Watcher points. Sometimes you just gotta roll with it...

Here's Sandy, Virginia and Lori enjoying some shrimp, which tastes even better when had on Sandy's delicious porch set.

There were so many great things for sale this time.
Lori had these adorable vintage cookie jars
and some beautiful silk Japanese Lantern flowers.
There were whimsical wind chimesand some almost appetizing paper maché "food".

Mark, the biker dude turned antique dealer offered this odd and I think at one time, useful object. It's for siphoning off gas but I wonder what the other 1001 uses are...
Click on Mark's photo for tattoo and tee shirt details. He looks tough
but don't let that fool you. Once you hear that southern drawl you'll be reminded of an old adage about a book and its cover..

There were even kitties at the flea this time!
This ten-day old baby came to the Flea with her foster mom and she needs almost constant care (now that's a devoted flea marketer!). She had her own carrier, a little heated blanket and a big meow!

If we'd done a little more of this
we might've looked a little better at the end of the daybut we signed on again for next time and spent dinner talking
about what we planned to sell in July.

Warning - Weight Watchers update - Week II
Ken's down another 2 pounds and I'm down a pound. Not bad considering this week we had our anniversary dinner (which included flourless chocolate bourbon torte) and a lovely dinner at Dave and Lucia's (which included her amazing chocolate pot de creme). We're on vacation soon so WW updates may take a temporary hiatus.
