Today's auction featured a wide array of estate finds. Inside they had furniture and more depression glass than any one person should really own in a lifetime. Out in the parking lot they were selling flats of annuals and perennials along with a lot of rusty crusty guy junque.
They also had outdoor furniture and dependingon your viewpoint, some needful things.
I was especially wowed by the vast collection of shot glasses. They had every color, shape, and size.
The staff said they came from one single estate and that they were found in the basement all stuffed into the drawers of metal file cabinet. I had never seen anything quite like it.

I tried to keep a lower profile at auction today by using my old trusty teeny weeny compact camera but that didn't keep the two ladies hovering around the shot glasses from passing me funny ones to photograph. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves. One of them asked me what I was going to do with photos. I thought for a second but couldn't come up with an answer (I think I muttered "I dunno"). Somehow answering "post them on my blog" just seemed, well, a little ridiculous.
There were lots of silly glasses including ones with googly eyes
that wobbled when you tipped the glass to take a drink.

There was one that featured a cat fight, but I looked at it for a long time but never did get the joke.
I had my eye on an enamel top table and two vintage metal spring chairs. We won the spring chairs at a great price and also scored a flat of geraniums for only $3. Woohoo! An odd note to today's auction was the solo jazz saxophonist playing out on the lawn near the parking lot with his one lone admirer. He sounded pretty good and she was most attentive.
He had his case open for tips but he was playing literally steps away from the highway and practically on the shoulder! You gotta have a lot of faith in the aim of the passing motorists to expect tips in this spot.
Hey, I think I had my first experience doing Laundry on that washing machine when Mother was pregant with Ken.
ReplyDeleteThe folks still had that washer when I was little. I remember Mom using it, I think because the newer one wasn't working.
